Miso is a paste made from fermented soybeans and while it’s safe for humans to consume, it is not recommended to give miso to dogs.

When deciding can a dog have miso soup, first, we need to take into consideration if it will benefit or harm our dogs.

Miso Soup is commonly prepared with other ingredients like vegetables, mushrooms and tofu. The resulting dish can be high in sodium and other ingredients that might be harmful to your dog’s health. As you may already know, sodium = salt, and consuming high amounts of salt can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and kidney damage – in dogs too!

So, can dogs really eat miso soup? Yes, but it is probably better to opt for more safe options available such as lean meats, fruits and vegetables.

As always it’s a good idea to consult with your veterinarian before introducing new foods into your dog’s diet.
